It shows that stories are a key part of culture and they influence and are influenced by each other to create traditions that are more powerful than silence, corruption, or oppression in the world.

The study focuses on the binary conflict between the perennially sunlit Land of Gup with its constantly talkative inhabitants and the perpetually dark Land of Chup whose residents are quiet. There is a clash between a liberal, pluralistic, and multicultural view of the world that is tolerant of diversity and the conservative view on different kinds of thoughts of the world. With the concept of diversity, Rushdie presents the polarization of Guppees and Chupwalas. Haroun realizes that there should have a balance between silence and sound. He confronts with opposite poles and concepts which represent the colonial conflict. The author shows the adventure of twelve-year old protagonist, Haroun Khalifa, who is in quest of the transcendental sphere in the Land of Gup and the Land of Chup. Postcolonial scholarship provides the theoretical concept of difference, diversity, and multiplicity in race, culture, and identity. Rushdie concentrates on the cultural differences that create the antagonistic position between Islamic fundamentalism and Western literary modernism.

The novel depicts the social, cultural, political, linguistic, and ecological divergences and the conflict between the worlds of Guppees and Chupwalas. The aim of this paper is to explore difference, diversity, and multiplicity portrayed in Salman Rushdie’s Haroun and the Sea of Stories.
